Setting:
The planet Terego in the 47 Ursae Majoris system, 45 light years from Earth. The year 2701, 45 years after a group of humans settled on that world.
Background:
In 2218 200 families pooled their resources and prepared to leave Earth forever, fleeing religious persecution and massive environmental upheavals. Their generation ship, the Malavaro, was piloted by sophisticated autonomous systems designed to search for a new home while thousands of passengers waited in stasis. After more than four hundred years, the ship reached 47 Ursae Majoris, whose habitable planet was christened Terego.
The 47 Ursae Majoris Star System:
47 Ursae Majoris is called Suno by the humans on Terego. There are five planets in the system:
- Moroni (at .75 AU)- a rocky, barren world.
- Terego- Settled January 2656 (Day one of 1st month of Teregan year 1).
- Two moons: Luneto and Hyrum
- Teregan day: 28 hours 12 minutes (divides into 7 hour sleep period, 7 hour work and study period, 7 hour family period) 1692 minutes
- Teregan year: 420.14 Teregan days (14 months of 30 days, every seven years there is an extra day) 710,786.88 minutes (about 493 Earth days, about a third more, so multiply/divide by 1.3)
- Diameter: 4,470 km. Six continents: Zarahemla, Novameriko, Kanaano, Tevantepeko, Utaho, Misurio.
- Enoš (at 2.1 AU)- Massive gas planet that orbits once every three years. Very close to Terego. Many moons, including Nefi.
- Elija (at 3.73 AU)- Massive gas giant with orbital period of nearly seven years.
- Eter (at 10 AU)- Gas giant whose orbit lasts 38 years and whose mass is 1.7 times that of Jupiter
Teregan Human Culture:
In 2701 there were roughly 800,000 human beings living on the continents of Zarahemla and Kanaano in six major cities and nearly 200 smaller towns. Despite the different cultural backgrounds of some of the original 200 families, deliberate efforts were made to forge a common Teregan identity, so it is possible to speak in general terms about humans on that world.
- Official Language: Esperanto (represented by English in this webcomic). It was chosen in order to bridge the linguistic gap between the different families.
- Principal Religion: Mormonism (persecution of which led to their exodus from Earth).
